Driver Training - MiDAS
MiDAS is the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme and is administered by the Community Transport Association. The scheme provides a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers and has been designed to enhance minibus driving standards and promote the safer operation of minibuses.
Every person wishing to drive the District minibus must hold a valid MiDAS driver's certificate. Certificates are issued on completion of an approved MiDAS training course. A driver’s certificate lasts for four years after which which you will need to attend a refresher MiDAS course.
Training Dates
Portsmouth Scouts organises MiDAS Standard Assessment Certificate training for New Drivers and Driver Refreshers. Sessions are open to anyone requiring MiDAS training, whether a member of Scouts or not. No suitable dates? Register your interest here and someone will be in touch.
Use the OSM Self-Service Portal to register for scheduled training.
Click the OSM SELF-SERVICE PORTAL button above.
When prompted:
Sign in to OSM using your existing login details
ORclick "Create Account" to set up a new one. Look for the My Venue Booking menu item after you've logged in / registered.
Click + ADD BOOKING and enter the scheduled training date as the START and END dates.
(If you are not sure, enter approximate date range.)Under BOOKABLE ITEMS select the 'MiDAS' training course ITEM and then a TIME SLOT (only available items and times can be selected)
Optional: add a Driver Handbook item, if required
Check the details and click SUBMIT BOOKING to complete your request.
Your provisional booking will be reviewed by the coordinators. Once confirmed, you will be able to return to OSM and make a card payment (claim the cost back from your treasurer in the usual way).
From December 2022, all training must be booked through the self-service portal in OSM. Invoices are automatically generated by OSM and are available at any times in the portal. Invoices should be paid by card (credit or debit) via the OSM online payment service.
Costs
* District fund 50% MiDAS Lecture and Driving Assessment/s and 100% Minibus Hire cost elements.
Training may be rescheduled if minimum attendee numbers (new 3, refresher 4) are not met.
Training Locations
The location for your training will be confirmed in your Booking Confirmation message.

Booking Confirmation
Email midas@portsmouthscouts.org.uk if you have not received confirmation of your training session 7 days before the course date.

Payment
Pay by card online via OSM.
When your booking is confirmed, return to the self-service portal in OSM and follow the onscreen directions to pay using a debit or credit card.

Driver Registration
Every attendee must complete a Driver Registration Form online 2 working days before the course date.
