We are updating how we manage bookings for the district Minibus. Arrangements may have changed since you last used the vehicle. Please be sure to follow the booking and user instructions provided. Questions? email minibus@portsmouthscouts.org.uk
Our minibus may be booked by anyone; however, driving is limited to Approved Drivers.
Registration to be approved is completed via an online form. Approved Drivers will...
Hold a valid driving licence that entitles them to drive a minibus
Hold a valid MiDAS Certificate
Be at least 21-years-old
Be insured to drive the minibus
Have the owner’s permission to drive it
The Driver is then responsible on the day to:
Ensure the minibus is roadworthy, taxed and has a current MOT
Ensure the minibus displays a minibus Section 19 permit (if applicable)
During driver registration, we will confirm that a driver meets our insurer's conditions to drive the vehicle, this includes holding the correct Driving Licence Category.
We do this by requesting DVLA Licence Check Codes during driver registration.
See gov.uk/view-driving-licence for information about generating your own check codes.
For any Scout booking a Driver must hold a valid MiDAS certificate. We may ask for a photo or PDF scan of the MiDAS certificate.
Drivers must have access to a suitable Section 19 permit.
District users and Portsmouth Explorer Units are covered by our District Section 19 Permit, held onboard.
Scout Groups must hold their own Group Section 19 Permit. Permits for groups are held at group-level, so you won’t need one for each section. See scouts.org.uk for more information and to request a permit.
All other users are responsible to make their arrangements for a Section 19 Permit, if required.
Breakdown cover is provided for all hires.
The procedure which must be followed in the event of a breakdown is available in the Driver's Folder in the cab.
All drivers and escorts must be aware of, and adhere to it.
The procedure which must be followed in the event of a collision or other emergency (such as passenger illness) is available in the Driver's Folder in the cab.
All drivers and passenger assistants must be aware of, and adhere to it.
Copies of the following documents are available in the Driver's Folder and online.
Drivers should confirm they are still in date.
