Using external first aid qualifications in Scouts
Completed an external first aid certificate?
If you have completed one of the named external certificates, you can complete a short e-learning "conversion" course to validate to Module 10A.
Recognised external certificates are:
Emergency First Aid at Work (1 day)
First Aid at Work (2 or 3 day)
Child First Aid courses
Royal Yachting Association courses
BE AWARE: if the certificate did not cover practical Child CPR, then you are required to demonstrate this separately with a Scout First Response Trainer to get Module 10B validated.
Accreditation
Individual completion of Scout First Response must be accredited before it can be added to a member's training record. How accreditation is granted depends on the trainer.
a Scout First Response trainer can credit training directly.
an external First Aid trainer (e.g., an Emergency First Aid at Work provider) cannot directly accredit Scout training. Some trainers will cover all the requirements of Scouts First Response, including Child CPR and will need to confirm this explicitly to the member.
To obtain validation, send the following to a Scout First Response trainer:A certificate from the external course
Evidence of completing the required elements of Scouts Module 10B, either with the external provider, a Scouts First Response Trainer, or through a suitable conversion module
Portsmouth members should send accreditation requests and all supporting documents to Hampshire Scouts at first_aid@hampshirescouts.org.uk
